winter scenes

So I have this project I've been working on that involves a solitary tree out in the middle of a field. The project is to take a photo of this tree in each season. Well, it snowed a little bit early last week and after I got the boy on the bus, I loaded the dog in the car and headed out to my tree for its photoshoot.
There it is, my lonely little tree.

After taking pics of my tree, I went in search of some old snow-covered barns and other winter scenery. I have always enjoyed the first snow....but let it be known that the longer and colder the winter, the more I daydream of much warmer locales (my H.B. girls know what that's all about!).

Snow can be quiet and beautiful, fresh and fun....but only in the beginning.

randomness

Feeling disorganized this morning with a lot of things on my To Do List, so today's post is going to be just as random as I feel.

Here's a video of Michael's new love, Eve/Eva from Wall-E (to turn off the music, scroll to the bottom of the blog and click on the sound/megaphone on the music player) :

This is video from Arty's weekend playdate with Buxton (my mom's bf's dog):

This is a collage Michael (we) made for school of his favorite things:

It's snowing here again. Is it too early in winter to be wishing for warm water lapping at my toes on some deserted sandy beach?

I guess I better grab another diet coke and get crackin' on all the stuff I need to get done.

oh happy day

Friday was Gary's birthday. Yippy for G!!

Gary's mom makes each of her kids a birthday meal and this year Gary asked for ribs. So while Gary was at work Friday, Carole made ribs, baked potatoes, broccoli casserole and garlic bread. All I had to do was make the cake, because Carole is awesome like that...and she knows what kind of cook I am - hahaha! The cake was german chocolate....one of his faves.

Okay, this would be a pretty good picture, except for the lens flare from the candle on G's chin. No matter where I moved to take the pic, the little glow was in every shot. That's something I'll have to figure out.

Does anyone know how to make flare go away? Maybe I should have turned on more lights?? I wanted it dark so I could practice low light shots with my new 50mm lens. Hey, maybe I should just have him blow out the candle? There, now it's gone. But now the picture is too dark.

I think he enjoyed the food, festivities and everyone's company. Here's to many more birthdays yet to come. Oh happy days.

happy new year!

Okay, I am a little late with wishing everyone a happy New Year, but the message is sincere. Do you make resolutions each year? If so, what are your resolutions this year? I used to make resolutions and they almost always included lose weight/eat healthy, among other things. And that resolution usually didn't last more than a week, so I didn't include it this year. I mean, why disappoint myself and have all that guilt.

I actually don't have specific resolutions, more of guidelines and thoughts of things to do that are wondering around in my head; never written down or formalized. How do you handle your resolutions? In writing? Shared with someone? Kept private?

I'm going to make mine simple this year. To try to BE PRESENT. Be present in my life, as a mom, as a wife, in my family's lives, whatever activities we're doing, with my friends. Maybe another goal would be to SIMPLIFY. Simplify...everything. What a freeing concept.

What are your goals/resolutions for this year?

Oh, and Kath, I would've posted sooner...but I was really hoping to write a little sumthin' sumthin' about this food from the gods that you hand-delived to us on Christmas morning:

We're in love with them and there's nothing we can do about it....pure torture, I tell ya! xoxox

PS: Happy Birthday Gary!! :)
